Cookie Policy

Effective Date: March 18, 2026

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit. They allow the site to remember information about your visit — such as whether you are logged in, your language preference, or how you interact with the interface — so that the experience is consistent and functional across pages and sessions.

Cookies are not programs and cannot execute code or deliver viruses. They are simply data files that your browser stores and sends back to the originating server on subsequent requests.

How Mello Uses Cookies

Mello Inc. uses cookies for three purposes: to keep you securely authenticated, to remember your interface preferences, and to understand — in aggregate and anonymously — how people use Mello so we can improve it. We do not use cookies for advertising, and we do not sell cookie data to third parties.

We distinguish between three categories of cookies:

  • Essential cookies are strictly necessary for the app to function. You cannot opt out of these without losing core functionality such as staying logged in.
  • Functional cookies remember your preferences (such as sidebar state) to improve your experience. These are harmless and contain no personal data.
  • Analytics cookies help us understand usage patterns. We use a privacy-respecting analytics platform that does not fingerprint users or share data with ad networks.

Third-Party Cookies

Mello integrates with a small number of third-party services that may set their own cookies. These include:

  • Plaid — when you connect a bank account, Plaid's Link interface may use session storage or cookies to maintain the connection flow. These are scoped to Plaid's domain and are governed by Plaid's Privacy Policy.
  • Stripe — if you complete a payment, Stripe's checkout interface may set cookies for fraud prevention and session continuity. These are governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy.

We do not permit advertising networks, social media platforms, or data brokers to set cookies through Mello.

Your Choices

When you first visit Mello, a cookie consent banner gives you the option to accept or decline optional (analytics) cookies. Essential cookies are always active because the app cannot function without them.

You can also manage cookies directly through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to view, block, or delete cookies at any time. Please note that blocking essential cookies will prevent you from logging in and using the app. Common browser cookie management guides:

Do Not Track

Some browsers transmit a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal to websites. Mello respects your privacy preferences. When a DNT signal is detected, we limit data collection to essential cookies only and do not activate analytics tracking.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of Mello after the updated date constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
